Focus
To build observation skills through mime.
Preparation
None.
Instructions
1.
Form a seated circle and introduce your ‘magic box’ to the group. Explain that inside it there are many strange and wonderful things – you can embellish this bit as much as you like!
2.
Put your hands into the box and pull out an imaginary object – it is a good idea to have something in your head even though it is make believe. Mime holding the object, demonstrating how it should be held and then pass it to the young person next to you.
3.
The imaginary object is passed around the group, who should reflect your mime, adding their own ideas. A good one to start with is to mime holding something hot or cold, as these are quite easy to guess and follow.
4.
Once the object has been passed around the circle and back to you, replace it back into the box. Ask if anyone can anyone guess what it was?
5.
Hand the ‘magic box’ around the circle so that everyone has the opportunity to lead the group.
6.
Close the game by ceremoniously putting away the ‘magic box’ until another day.
