Marshmallow and spaghetti tower

posted in: Relationships, Games, Group Challenge | 0

Duration:

30 minutes

Resources:

  • Dried spaghetti
  • Marshmallows

Focus

This activity is a fun way to explore what is needed to make a structure secure and to practice problem solving. This is also great to to with a parent or sibling to learn the importance of working as a team, communication and planning.

Instructions

1.

As a group, discuss what it means to be ‘part of a team’. What kind of behaviour is acceptable/not acceptable? How can being part of a team be useful?

2.

Now build a tower using only dried spaghetti and marshmallows. The tower must be as tall as possible and should be able to stand without any support. Think about what kind of shape buildings are and what makes them steady. If you’re working in a pair or team, you’ll need to make a plan, decide who will do what, cooperate well together and communicate efficiently.

3.

Once the tower has been built and its strength tested, talk about:

  • Are you happy with your tower?
  • What went well?
  • What could have gone better?
  • How did you work as a team?
