Duration:

15 minutes

Estimated Cost:

£0

Focus

This activity encourage girls to listen to each other. It also develops confidence in using their voices.

Preparation

Make rolls of newspaper.

Instructions

1.

Sing some simple rounds (e.g. London’s Burning, Row Row Your Boat, Three Blind Mice, Make New Friends.)

2.

After singing a round, ask the girls to suggest actions for each section, e.g.
London’s burning – tap knees
Fetch the engines – tap shoulders
Fire fire – wave hands in air
Pour on water – stamp feet

3.

After practising a chosen round a few times with voices and actions, withdraw the words for each line gradually so that the song is performed in silence with actions only. (This is good for internalising music, i.e. singing in your head).

4.

A steady pulse can be beaten out on a tambourine or small drum to keep everyone together.
