What you’ll need:

  • A4 paper
  • Sticky tape
  • Glue
  • Craft materials (eg feathers, lollipop sticks, sequins)
  • Felt tip pens
  • Tape measure

Duration:

  • 30 minutes

1.

This is an activity to do in a pair or bigger group. Each person starts by using their resources to design and build an aeroplane that they think will fly the longest distance.

2.

Taking turns, stand behind the flying start line and attempt to fly your plane. After each attempt measure the distance that the plane travelled. If it flies forward then
back behind the flying line, then the distance is counted as 0cm.

3.

After you’ve given your first try its best shot, take ten minutes to make one change to each of your planes’ design. You could change:

  • The length of the nose
  • The weight of the nose
  • The length of the wings
  • The weight of the wings
  • The length of the body
  • The weight

4.

After you’ve made your change, have another go at flying! The winner is whoevers plane goes the furthest.
